More than 2000 cats in Leros Island

Ils sont tous mignons mais on les appelle les chats de poubelles … car ils y vivent ou plus exactement ils y survivent des déchets des habitants !!! Quand ils veulent essayer de rentrer dans une habitation ils sont accueillis à coup de balai !!!

They are the responsibility of the MUNICIPALITY OF LEROS. Despite a municipal budget of 250,000 euros for stray animals, not a single euro is devoted to cats, despite their status as iconic animals!! Even a sterilization project to contain the population despite the fact that it is the burden of a deputy mayor! Nothing! A shame!!

The welfare of the Cats is a shared responsibility that we all can help with.

The municipality is aware of the number of stray Cats in Leros and their needs.

They are completely abandoned without water, without food, without care.

Our mission focuses on helping the Cats of Leros find better living conditions.

Sometimes they venture into taverns in search of food due to hunger; they have no other choice. Restaurateurs often chase them away for fear of losing customers. A small act of kindness, like providing food and water, could make a big difference for these Cats.

Feeding and caring for these Cats is a collective responsibility.

Many residents make efforts each on their own to maintain the cats… with their small means, their good heart and their efforts. They have difficulty without a car to take the animals to the vet without a car. As always, a small gesture from everyone would achieve a great result. Foreigners who visit Leros are very sensitive to these causes and it could be a hell of a tourist showcase for the island and which could develop its attractiveness.

Local efforts are aimed at improving the situation of the Cats in Leros.

Even a little water in the stifling heat of summer is not on the agenda.

We promote the benefits of spay/neuter within communities and actively spay/neuter as many as possible to prevent unwanted kittens of tomorrow. We are committed to supporting the protection and rescue of neglected, abandoned and abused street cats.

We are committed to ensuring that all Cats receive the spay/neuter support they require.

It’s important to highlight the situation of these Cats, who deserve better living conditions and care.

HELP STREETS CATS OF LEROS is a non-profit all volunteer run animal rescue charity based in Leros to improve the lives of street cats.

We currently provide water and kibble to Cats near the rubbish bins on the island. The Cats gather there, hoping to find food among the waste, but that is not what they truly need. Their survival depends on us to ensure they receive proper nutrition and care.

Providing food and water to the Cats should be a community effort that we all take part in.

All donations go directly towards the welfare of the Cats of Leros.

It is therefore not only a problem of animal humanity, it is also a major ecological impact that many Greek islands have long solved.

We focus on sustainable practices for the benefit of the Cats.

The municipality receives credits for the animal condition (the management of wanderers according to local terms) and for the ecology of the island, but nothing is done.

You can give water in summer to cats during your stay a bowl costs 1 euro. A bag of croquettes about thirty euros and you will really make people happy.

Tourists can greatly impact the lives of these Cats through their kindness and donations.

It’s crucial that tourists understand the plight of the Cats in Leros.

Maybe like many summer visitors to the island, you fell in love with one of these little animals, and like many you may have considered bringing it home, but it was too difficult, so don’t abandon them… A few euros will make them happy..

We are not determined to see these little animals live in garbage cans in stupid conditions and that their life expectancy is minimal. It is a question of humanity that leads us today to take care of more than 150 cats!! Thank you in advance for them!!!
